A Ford Kuga mounted the kerb and collided with Shokudo Japanese restaurant in Wigston’s Bell Street just after 4pm today, with one person inside sustaining non-life threatening injuries
One person has been rushed to hospital after a car crashed into a Japanese sushi restaurant in a Leicestershire town.
The incident unfolded just after 4pm on Saturday, April 11, when a Ford Kuga mounted the pavement on Wigston’s Bell Street before smashing into the Shokudo Japanese restaurant.
Emergency services, including police, paramedics and firefighters, all descended on the scene. Leicestershire Police confirmed that one person inside the building was taken to hospital suffering from what have been described as “non-life threatening injuries”.
The two occupants of the Ford Kuga, a man and a woman both in their 80s, escaped without injury.
One stunned eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, described hearing a loud bang before discovering the full extent of the damage.
They told Leicestershire Live. “I was walking away from it but heard the bang. There’s extensive damage to the sushi shop.”
Police confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
A force spokesperson said officers remain at the scene and are “carrying out enquiries to ascertain the circumstances of the collision”, including reviewing CCTV footage.
The spokesperson added: “Officers were called to the scene at 4.07pm this afternoon where a car – a Ford Kuga – has mounted the kerb and collided with a building.
“One person, who was inside the building, has been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Two people – a man and a woman in their 80s – who were inside the car were not injured.
“No arrests have been made. Officers remain at the scene and in the immediate area carrying out enquiries to ascertain the circumstances of the collision, including CCTV checks.”
