Police in Kenya have confirmed the dead body found in a remote forest is that of 58-year-old British businessman Campbell Scott – who vanished there whilst on a business trip last week

A strangled dead body found in a remote forest in Kenya has been identified as British businessman Campbell Scott who vanished there a week ago.

Two people have been arrested since the discovery, including a taxi driver and a waiter, Capital News reports. Scott, 58, was a senior director at credit scoring firm Fico and vanished whilst on a business trip in the East African country earlier this month, sparking a major search by police which led to the discovery of his body dumped in shrubland.

He was found strangled inside a green sack on Saturday, February 22, by animal herders in the Makongo forest – around 60 miles southeast of the capital. Scott was last seen by his colleagues days earlier on February 16 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Nairobi, where the conference was being held.

He checked into the hotel on the afternoon of Saturday, February 15, and according to reports, left the following day at 11:15am. He is believed to have visited several pubs and clubs in the lead up to his disappearance, with officers now working to establish a timeline of his last steps. His employer told the BBC on Monday that local police had identified his body.

A spokeswoman for the firm said staff were “devastated” by the news. She added: “Campbell was a leader in our international Scores business. He joined FICO in 2014 and was instrumental in introducing Scores to new markets and growing our business with existing partnerships. We mourn his passing and will miss his humour and kindness. Our thoughts are with Campbell’s family and friends. We ask that the media respect their privacy.”

Two people have been arrested in connection with his death, including a taxi driver and a waiter. Scott was reported missing by colleagues on February 16 after he missed a meeting and they failed to reach him on his UK registered phone number by 6pm.

Officials earlier said they feared the Brit may have been kidnapped, according local media. A Foreign Office spokesman previously said: “We are supporting the family of a British man reported missing in Kenya and are in contact with the local authorities.”
