One Amazon shopper said: “This is unbeatable. It easily competes with Patron and Casamigos, but at a much better price point.”

With garden parties, barbeques and summer soirees planned over the coming weeks, now is the ideal time for shoppers to upgrade their home cocktail game. Ahead of National Tequila Day on Friday, July 24, one award-winning tequila brand has just dropped the price on a bottle shoppers are saying is the ‘best I have ever tasted’.

El Mayor Blanco Tequila has been reduced from £32.99 to £27.50 at Amazon, saving shoppers 17%. Handcrafted in Jalisco, Mexico, using 100% mature Blue Weber agave, water and heirloom yeast, the deal offers an affordable way to try a premium tequila that’s earned multiple international awards.

The timing couldn’t be better, either, with margaritas shaping up to be one of the most popular cocktails of 2026, according to Bacardi’s annual Cocktail Trends Report. More people are swapping gin and vodka for agave-based drinks, making this discounted bottle ideal for summer entertaining with something a little different.

Produced by the Gonzalez family, who have been making tequila for four generations, it’s flavour is described as ‘floral with a hint of spice’ and is designed to showcase the fresh, naturally sweet flavour of agave without added sugars. Because of this absence of sugars, the brand says tequila is one of the ‘cleanest’ spirits to drink.

Hailed as the ‘perfect summer refresher’, El Mayor has shared a Blueberry Margarita recipe that’s certain to impress guests this season. Giving this year’s must-have cocktail a fruity twist, the brand suggests shaking together 50ml El Mayor Blanco Tequila, 20ml fresh lime juice and 20ml blueberry syrup before straining over fresh ice with a salted rim on the glass.

El Mayor Blanco Tequila, 40% ABV, shows off the purity of the agave. It’s available from Amazon, £32.99 (70cl).

But Margaritas aren’t the only tequila-based cocktail worth sipping this summer. Another option is the Sparkling Paloma, which combines 50ml El Mayor Reposado with 50ml grapefruit soda and 50ml cava, served over ice with a twist of grapefruit peel. The El Mayor Reposado Tequila, features notes of vanilla, spice, and caramel, coming in at £38.95 at The Whisky Exchange.

Finally, the Albatross is ideal for those who prefer spirit-forward drinks. El Mayor recommends muddling a demerara sugar cube with three dashes of Angostura bitters before stirring with 50ml El Mayor Añejo (£42.25 at Amazon) and ice. Strain into a rocks glass and garnish with orange peel. It’s a little like an Old Fashioned, but with a Mexican twist.

For a budget, supermarket option, M&S’s Distilled Blanco Tequila is £20 and made using Blue Agave. Shoppers who used it said ‘everyone enjoyed their margaritas’, though another described it as ‘bland’.

For those who don’t want the faff of making their own cocktails, a ready-made cans may be preferred. Moth cocktails are my go-to and a pack of eight margarita cans comes in at £26. They’re described by the brand as ‘fresh, sharp and confident’.

Back at Amazon, we’ve been hard pressed to find a bad word said about the El Mayor Blanco Tequila. One reviewer said: “I can honestly say this is by far the best tequila I have ever tasted. It exceeded my expectations in every way. Unlike other tequila it has a great taste, and indeed smell and is a fantastic choice for sipping, with or without a mixer. Value for money, excellent flavour, nice bottle.”

A whiskey fan found themselves converted, commenting: “I’m typically a whiskey fan and enjoy sipping spirits – given that the sun was shining this weekend I thought I’d try out El Mayor as I’d heard good things. Wow! It’s incredibly smooth with citrusy notes and a very clean aftertaste, perfect to relax with in the garden.”

It’s simply the bottle’s full price that may sting slightly, but a third said that ‘on sale, this is unbeatable’. They added: “It easily competes with my two favourite tequilas (and I have tried most), Patron and Casamigos, but at a much better price point. It’s really smooth and balanced but the agave notes still come through beautifully.”

A fourth shopper, who enjoys even more high end spirits, commented: “For a £50ish tequila it’s ok. I wouldn’t say this is as good as a £150 bottle. Drinkable yes but saying it’s good sipping tequila is a little bit of a stretch. I only just opened it though and I find sometimes letting tequila ‘breathe’ a little helps pronounce the profile a bit. Maybe I will update my review in a few weeks as I only have a shot occasionally.”

Another five-star review read: “Really enjoyed this tequila! My friend recommended so I treated myself and it food not disappoint – very smooth, fresh tasting and lovely over ice. Looking forward to trying it out on a couple of cocktails next. The bottle is also very attractive so great for gifts.”

For anyone looking for a bottle to elevate homemade margaritas and summer cocktails without spending a fortune, this discount makes El Mayor well worth considering. It’s worth remembering that El Mayor sits at 40% ABV, so please drink responsibly. For advice on alcohol units and safer drinking, visit Drinkaware at https://www.drinkaware.co.uk/ .
