When a man went shopping in a Spanish supermarket, he realised that in the UK we’re paying crazily expensive prices. He is even considering moving there as a result

There’s no denying that food prices in British supermarkets have gone through the roof, but we’ve come to accept this and continue to pay for the things we need. But when Brits go abroad to certain countries, it becomes apparent how cheap other places are, and leaves many gobsmacked.

That’s why, when Cavan O’Grady went on holiday with his mum for her 63rd birthday and they popped into a Spanish supermarket, they were left stunned at the prices. They stayed with his aunt in the town of La Línea de la Concepción, near the border with Gibraltar, but it was the supermarket that stole the show for him.

But in addition to enjoying the 30-degree weather, complete with stunning sunshine, Cavan – known as Cav – shared that he was out shopping for food in Carrefour when he realised how different it was to shopping back in the UK.

The 27-year-old captioned the clip: “Spanish supermarkets are a different level”.

Cav, who comes from Birmingham, walked around the store while saying: “TikTok, I’m going to tell you something, Spain knows how to do it in these supermarkets.

“First of all, the place is absolutely massive. It’s unreal how fresh all this stuff looks, you’re just not getting this back home.

“This would make you want to eat like a king out here. And do you know what, price-wise, it’s so much cheaper here than it is back home.”

Cav said that this was another “win” for Spain, explaining why he loves visiting.

One local said: “Thank you very much for saying what no one ever says, there is good agriculture, livestock, fishing, we have everything in our country.”

Another added: “Mercadona is one of the crown jewels.”

“I live in Spain, it’s a lot cheaper to live there than in the UK, the bills are cheaper too,” one woman shared about the country she lives in.

Some people said that “Spain was a paradise not long ago,” but now it’s “too expensive” for what they’re paid.

Cav said: “It showed me how we’re getting absolutely had on products in the UK. I was genuinely overwhelmed by the quality and prices on offer in that Spanish supermarket.”

But it wasn’t just the supermarkets he was really impressed with, as he rated the local gym a “10/10”.

“I wanted to find a proper bodybuilding gym, which I found, and the gym is sick, the equipment’s sick, and the locals are really nice and friendly,” he shared, saying he’d definitely go back to that gym while he’s away with his mum.

In another video, Cav said: “TikTok, I might actually move to Spain […] This is the life for me… Might have to be a quick move here, lads”.
