Pictures show a narrow block of flats located in Fishponds, Bristol, which appeared to show that residents would have a limited amount of space. Some locals thought the building looked ‘unique’

A block of flats could be Britain’s skinniest set of homes as the walls appear to be a mere 3ft thick – leaving locals to guess what could actually fit inside.

The unusual apartments, located in Fishponds, Bristol, appeared to be rather slim in pictures which emerged online. The images showed the small block of flats nestled into the corner of the street. Locals were left divided by the flat block, with some boasting that it offered a “unique” look to the community.

Other residents branded them rather strange and said the building is too “skinny”. However, some people saw the funny side and joked that you’d “save a fortune in carpet and wallpaper”. A recent post about the flats on a local Facebook group got more than 200 comments and 700 reactions.

One person wrote: “It’s the eighth strangest thing about the Ponds.” Another commented: “Wish I could be that skinny”. Others compared the building to the famous Flatiron Building in New York City. One neighbour said: “The first time we saw it, we thought it was so odd. It reminds us of the Flatiron we always compare it to that. It’s nice because it’s different. It’s kind of interesting, it’s kind of unique. It must be tiny inside, you wouldn’t get much in there.”

Several people thought the flats reminded them of its New York counter part, reports Mail Online. “Probably the only similar building I’ve seen like that is the Flatiron Building in New York,” said another user. “There’s a building in New York called the Flatiron that’s very narrow at one end, hence its name.”

Other locals said they think the slimmest section of the building is a bathroom. One said: ”It’s a home of multiple occupancy so there’s a lot of coming and going, a lot of different people there.” The building used to be shops rather than a residential property, according to one long-time resident.

A resident named Becky explained what the building used to look like. She said: “It used to be, the front bit, was shops, little shops, and quite a few years ago, they turned it into flats.” She added that there was an “electrical shop, a shoemaker, a vegetable shop, ( and ) some clothing place.”
