The 24-year-old Brit fell around ten metres from a hotel balcony in Ayia Napa on Sunday evening – and was rushed to hospital where he is now fighting for his life

A British tourist is fighting for his life in Ayia Napa after falling ten metres from his hotel balcony.

The 24-year-old fell on Sunday at around 8pm and was initially rushed to the Famagusta hospital in Paralimni, but was urgently transferred to Nicosia general hospital – the largest in Cyrpus. Doctors say he is in “serious” condition and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

It comes just weeks after another British holidaymaker plunged from a hotel balcony in Puerto Banus, near Marbella. The man reportedly fell from a first-floor balcony at the Hard Rock Hotel on May 27, though the drop was said to be the height of a third floor.

Emergency services rushed him to Costa del Sol Hospital before he was urgently transferred to Regional University Hospital in Malaga due to the severity of his injuries. Three pals who were with him at the time have been questioned by police as investigations into the incident continue.

Local reports suggest the man’s friends had no idea he had fallen – until police came knocking on their hotel room door to break the news. The group had reportedly been asleep when the incident happened in the early hours, unaware of the terrifying plunge just outside.

While authorities have yet to issue an official statement, sources say the fall is not being treated as a case of “balconing” – the dangerous trend where thrill-seeking tourists leap between balconies or dive into pools from hotel rooms.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to piece together exactly what happened in the moments before the fall.

In April, Brits heading to Ibiza were issued an urgent warning about the dangers of jumping off balconies following a number of similar tragedies involving young tourists falling from hotel balconies – including Scottish student Emma Ramsay, 19, who died last after falling from the sixth floor of a hotel.
