Protests against tourists have ramped up across the Balearics and Canary Islands in recent weeks and months, with Brits now vowing to boycott the European holiday hotspot

Brits are ditching their Spanish getaways and calling for a boycott of the popular EU holiday destination amid escalating anti-UK tourist sentiment.

The Balearic and Canary Islands have seen a surge in protests, sparking outrage among British holidaymakers. One disgruntled Brit took to Facebook to vent: “Notably the Spanish aren’t slow in taking holiday makers money though.” Another suggested: “All UK travel agents should cancel holidays to Spain, Majorca and Tenerife due to non friendly actions against their clients and possible court cases.”

A third commenter pointed out: “Protests are driven by eco warriors. I presume British people would not want foreign tourists to believe Just Stop Oil protestors? ” Meanwhile, another shared a positive experience: “Go to Turkey it’s very hot in August… cheap to eat and drink and very good value we have been several times and have never had a bad time the locals are friendly to you.”

They added a story about exceptional local hospitality: “We went out for a meal one evening and after we had finished we had a coffee and asked for a Brandy with it and they didn’t have Brandy and they sent out somebody and he came back with a Bottle of Brandy and gave us a glass each on the house. Give it a go you wont be dissapointed.”, reports Birmingham Live.

Defending their upcoming trip, one traveller said: “Going to Tenerife next Saturday and will spend our money locally. We have no control over wages, housing or the building of hotels and accommodation. Ask the locals who have either sold or rented their homes,”.

“The French don’t spend like the Brits on holiday. The Japanese take thousands of photos but don’t buy anything. The Germans and Scandinavians spend well almost the same as the British but the Spanish economy will notice a real drop in income if they upset their main source of tourism,” one person commented. “Seems some folks like to bite the hands that feed them,” another agreed.
