A British boy has reportedly been stabbed to death in a popular tourist town after his mum’s ex-partner allegedly attacked him before dying in a gas explosion.
Authorities say the 13-year-old was killed in the Portuguese town of Tomar on Tuesday, local news website Diario de Noticias has reported.
It reports that the teenager was stabbed by his mother’s ex-partner who then barricaded himself inside the house. The attacker then allegedly caused the gas explosion which left another two people injured – the child’s mother and a member of the GNR (National Republican Guard). They were both hit by shrapnel from the explosion.
A source from the Santarém Territorial Command told the Lusa news agency that the GNR (National Republican Guard) was called to the scene around noon local time, following an alert about domestic violence, and found a situation involving a “homicide followed by suicide”.
Luís Freire, president of the Parish Council of Casais/Alviobeira, told SIC Notícias that this was a case that had already been flagged by the authorities due to previous episodes of domestic violence.
