BrewDog has temporarily closed all its pubs and bars throughout the UK today as the troubled chain holds urgent all-hands meetings with staff while a potential sale of the business remains undecided

A popular pub has closed its bars for the day as the company nears completion of its sale.

The Scottish brewer BrewDog, famed for producing craft beers including Punk IPA and Elvis Juice, pulled down the shutters at its pubs on Monday whilst putting the finishing touches to the sale process.

Back in February, consultancy firm AlixPartners was brought in to manage the sale. BrewDog runs 72 bars globally alongside four breweries.

It’s believed the temporary bar closures stem from the imminent change in ownership and associated licensing requirements.

The BBC has reported an announcement regarding the sale is anticipated early this week. The corporation also revealed that BrewDog’s chief executive James Taylor sent an email to staff on Monday.

The message stated: “We appreciate this is an unsettling time for everyone and we want to ensure that all colleagues have the opportunity to hear directly from us about what happens next.”

We will therefore be holding a series of company-wide All Hands calls tomorrow (Monday) for all employees across the whole business. These will be scheduled tomorrow.

“To enable everyone to attend, and to comply with licensing issues arising from an anticipated change of ownership, we have taken the decision that none of our bars will open tomorrow (Monday). All sites will remain closed for the day.”

We have also cancelled food and beer deliveries, as well as customer bookings, for that day. “BrewDog declined to comment on Monday. The prospective sale has prompted concerns amongst those who have invested in Brewdog has been raising funds through its “equity for punks” scheme.

The firm carried out several crowdfunding campaigns up until 2021.
