A 16-year-old boy who was arrested after a 13-year-old girl was found dead in a home in Huddersfield has now been released on conditional police bail – this is a breaking news story

Police investigating the death of a 13-year-old girl have issued a major update.

A 16-year-old boy who was arrested after the girl was found dead in a home in Huddersfield has now been released on conditional police bail. The girl, who was found collapsed inside a property, was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Detectives arrested a 16-year-old boy from Huddersfield on suspicion of the girl’s murder. He was also arrested on suspicion of rape relating to another 16-year-old girl from a separate incident elsewhere in Kirklees.

On Friday, West Yorkshire Police confirmed the boy had been released on conditional bai. The force said in a statement: “A 16-year-old boy who was arrested following the death of a 13-year-old girl in Huddersfield, has been released on conditional police bail.

“Detectives are working to fully understand the circumstances of the girl’s death which is being treated as unexplained after a post mortem could not establish how she died. The 16-year-old was also released on conditional police bail regarding an offence of rape relating to a 16-year-old girl from a separate incident elsewhere in Kirklees. Enquires into both incidents remain ongoing by detectives.”
