The FA have confirmed that Barnet boss Dean Brennan has been charged for allegedly acting in an improper manner towards a female referee during a League Two fixture

Barnet head coach Dean Brennan has become the first EFL manager to be charged for sexist comments towards a referee.

An FA statement read: Barnet FC’s manager has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to an incident at their EFL League Two fixture against Shrewsbury Town FC on Saturday 6 September.

“It’s alleged that Dean Brennan acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words towards a match official during the fixture, which is contrary to FA Rule E3.1.

“It’s further alleged that this is an “Aggravated Breach”, which is defined in FA Rule E3.2, as it included a reference -whether express or implied – to gender. Dean Brennan has until Tuesday 9 December to provide a response.”
