The Met Office is warning of a ‘multi-hazard’ event on Thursday into Friday as more cold weather hits UK
B&Q is selling a £7.50 dehumidifier that shoppers say ‘works wonders’ and gets rid of mould and condensation in ’48 hours’. A dehumidifier can be helpful to use in winter to combat excess indoor moisture caused by condensation, cooking, and drying clothes.
It can also help ward off mould and dampness, as well as improve air quality, and potentially make your home feel warmer, which could lead to reduced energy bills. B&Q shoppers have left rave reviews for the store’s £7.50 Blyss Curve Bright White and Translucent Moisture Trap, which is a non-electric dehumidifier designed to “effectively reduce condensation in your home”.
Currently, the UK is facing freezing conditions, with multiple Met Office weather warnings in place across Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and England. The snowy and icy climes mean many will be looking for ways to stay warm indoors without triggering mould and condensation.
The Met Office has issued further warnings for snow and ice ahead of a so-called ‘multi-hazard’ event on Thursday into Friday. Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Chris Bulmer said: “A deepening area of low pressure – named Storm Goretti by Meteo France – will move across the south of the UK during Thursday and into Friday.
“It will clash with the very cold air here, meaning Thursday night could be what we call a ‘multi-hazard’ event, with snow on the northern flank of the low, wind and rain on the southern flank. We have therefore issued a yellow warning for snow for parts of England and Wales, where heavy snow could lead to disruption and difficult travelling conditions.
“Strong winds associated with Storm Goretti may also lead to some disruption, and so in addition, a yellow wind warning has been issued for southwest England. The exact track of the low is still uncertain, and these warnings are likely to be amended – and potentially escalated – over the coming days. It is therefore vital that people keep up-to-date with the latest forecasts.”
B&Q says its Blyss Curve Bright White and Translucent Moisture Trap “helps to reduce the amount of moisture present in the air, making it more healthy”. The spill proof design and water level monitor means “you can keep an eye on the amount of fluid inside”.
It also has a “secure closure” and perforation of more than 7mm for safety to prevent contact with children’s fingers. Tray capacity is 900ml and there are “donut” refills are available, either neutral or scented.
If you are looking for a dehumidifier to help your home get through winter, there are others available. Dunelm is selling a 1L Dehumidifier for £25. For a pricier option, Tesco has a DMD 16L/Day Dehumidifier on sale for £90.
However, many people are enjoying B&Q’s Blyss Curve Bright White and Translucent Moisture Trap. In the reviews, one shopper called Bella said it gets to work in ‘two days’, writing: “Bought this to help with condensation in our bathroom, which was causing black mould to appear. Wasn’t sure if these things actually worked, but was willing to have a try. Within 2 days of use there was 1cm depth of water in collection tank!
“The solid disc you pop in the top slowly dissolves and the water collects in the tank. Condensation gone, black mould gone. Have put one in my loft (now with more insulation) as I noticed water on the top of Xmas decoration box. That’s working up there too. We’ll worth the money.”
Heather said: “Cheap and cheerful but does the job. Great that refills are available. Bought one and immediately went back for two more!” Sammy wrote: “I wasn’t expecting much but was surprised and super impressed by how much water it extracted, at least a pint in two weeks! Definitely recommend this product have actually brought another one!”
Ang said: “I read a couple of reviews and decided to give it a try. I’d started to get black mould on the ceiling in my son’s room above the windows, which were also covered in condensation. Within one day, there was already about 10ml of moisture collected in the container. Bedroom is 20 msq and the photos show the moisture collected after roughly 4 weeks. No more condensation and no more black mould!”
However, a few people shared some issues. John claimed: “Supposed to last 6 weeks, gone in 3. But sucks out the moisture.” Magrat said: “The plastic container is very difficult to undo. I feel like I’m going to break the small plastic clips that hold the two parts together.” Someone else said: “Does not collect any moisture from the room.”
The majority of people left positive reviews. Moc said: “First time buy, just got 1 to try it out. Brilliant will be back for more.” Another put: “I have used this product for many years and it still does the job well.” Someone else said: “Very good value keeps my living space fresh and it’s very discreet.”
