Police have launched a probe after Zack Masters-Mazzone was rushed from Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern school in Anglesey, Wales to hospital for treatment

A schoolboy nearly died after vaping an “unknown substance” at school.

Police have launched a probe after Zack Masters-Mazzone was rushed from Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern school in Anglesey, Wales to hospital for treatment.

His mum said Zack could have died after consuming the vape, which may have contained ketamine or spice.

The circumstances are now under investigation, with a police presence at the school as anyone with information is told to contact the force.

Ms Masters-Mazzone told North Wales Live : “I can’t even explain how devastating it is to see your child lay lifeless on a hospital bed while so many doctors and nurses were trying all different ways of seeing if he reacted to pain and no reaction from him at all.

“Zack stupidly had a bit of someone’s vape on break in school and suddenly felt really poorly, weak and ended up being completely unresponsive for four whole hours even with doctors, nurses, anaesthetists and consultants trying everything to wake him up, was even unresponsive to pain tests.

“I got a phone call off the school to tell me that Zack had had a go on someone’s vape (stupidly) and they thought that there was something else in it, so to pick him up and take him straight to the hospital which we did.

“To see my boy sat in the car and on the hospital bed completely lifeless, and being carried into the hospital completely lifeless by Matt(his dad), is something I can’t even explain the pain of.

“And then to be told that he was touch and go as to whether they needed to intubate him and take him to Alder Hey because the vape he’d had some of, off a child in that school was full of either Ketamine or spice

“This could have killed my child. We could have been explaining to three young children tonight why their brother is never coming home.”

Chief Inspector Jon Aspinall said: “Our priority in this case is to protect any further young people in the area from coming to harm.

“Incidents of this nature are rare, and we are taking this incredibly seriously to discover the circumstances around yesterday’s incident.

“There will be an increased police presence at the school today to speak with pupils and to gain any further information available.

“We have already begun working with partners to develop more education for parents and young people around this topic and will update on this soon.

“Our investigations are ongoing, and I would urge anyone with information about the incident to contact us as soon as possible. Parents and carers can find information about the risks of vaping on the Public Health Wales website.”

Anglesey County Council, which is the local education authority, has been approached for comment.

Anyone with information that could assist enquiries should contact police via our website or by calling 101, quoting reference C161060.
