Police have carried out a series of enquiries, including house-to-house visits, and have urged those with information to come forward following the arrest of a 12-year-old boy

A 12-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempting to rape an 11-year-old girl.

The incident is reported to have happened in Bishop’s Waltham, Hampshire at around 8:30pm on Tuesday.

Specialist officers are providing support to the girl and her family while enquiries continue. A 12-year-old local boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape of a girl under 13. He has been bailed as investigations remain ongoing.

Officers have conducted a series of enquiries, including house-to-house visits and speaking with several young people who were in the park around the time of the incident.

Officers are also asking members of the public not to speculate on the incident, and to get in touch with Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary if they have any information that may help them in their investigation.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary’s Acting Inspector Ed Hurst, from the Winchester district, said: “We know this incident will be concerning for the local community. While we fully acknowledge the seriousness of this incident, and the impact it will have on the local community, we do believe it is an isolated incident.

“An investigation is ongoing and over the coming days officers will be carrying out extensive enquiries to establish what took place. We would ask people not to speculate on the incident.
