A man was recovered from River Soar in Leicester close to Castle Mead Academy but he couldn’t be saved despite being rushed to hospital, police confirmed tonight

A man has died in hospital after he was pulled from a river outside a secondary school this evening.

He was hauled from River Soar in Leicester tonight before being rushed for urgent medical care. Despite their efforts, the man could not be saved and he was pronounced dead hours later. A police presence and a forensics team were reported outside a secondary school.

Wet clothing and other items were seen being bagged up and taken away by detectives while cordon tape was eventually taken down at Richard III Road, close to Castle Mead Academy. Police later confirmed that a man had died after being pulled from the water earlier this evening.

“Officers were called to Richard III Road in Leicester just after 5.35pm today (Monday 20 January) after Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service recovered a man from the River Soar,” the statement, given to LeicestershireLive, read.

“The man was taken to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for HM Coroner. Identification will be a matter for the coroner.”

Two police cars were seen working the site with a cordon set up to keep the public away while officers investigated the area. The cordon contained several items dotted on the floor including what appears to be wet clothes and another object which may be a paramedic blanket.
