For half the price, people cannot complain about the bargain piece of furniture
B&M is selling a storage unit that has “rustic charm” and could pass off as an upgraded version of a more expensive IKEA classic. Shoppers who opt for the discount store’s version would end up saving half the price for something that looks so similar.
The Simply Panelled Six Cube Shelving Unit comes in a light oak-effect wood finish and costs shoppers £25 for the flat-pack unit. It comes in a versatile style that could be used in almost any room where homes need extra storage.
Writing online, B&M bosses said: “Featuring a sleek oak finish and a chic panelled design, this Simply Panelled Six Cube Shelving Unit gives your space some rustic charm. Perfect for living rooms, bedrooms, and dining spaces, this shelving unit offers plenty of storage space for books, keepsakes, and more!”
The design is very similar to a £50 option available in IKEA stores across the country. The popular KALLAX unit comes in many sizes, from small two-cube units to massive 25-cube units.
The most similar to the B&M’s is the six-cube set from IKEA, priced at £50 for the white stained oak effect version. The Swedish furniture company wrote on its website: “The simple design with clean lines makes KALLAX flexible and easy to use at home. Choose whether to place it standing and use it as a shelving unit or lying and use it as a sideboard.
“Personalise the shelving unit with inserts and boxes to make it suit your needs. Display your favourite items on the open shelves or add inserts to create a personalised solution with closed storage.”
IKEA’s unit does not come with any backing, unlike the B&M option, which has half of the cubes enclosed with stylish wooden slats to enhance decor and add interest.
In terms of size, the IKEA unit (111.5cm H x 76.5cm W x 39cm D) is larger than the B&M option (89cm H x 60cm W x 28cm D), making the bargain version ideal for those working with smaller spaces.

There is another similar ‘IKEA-style’ product also on offer at B&M, offering to ‘keep rooms tidy’ for under £20. The Sienna Two-Drawer Bedside Table could easily be mistaken for the £49 IKEA MALM at first glance.
