The sweet treat is one the latest additions to come to the shop, although, fans had more questions than answers
B&M shoppers can pick up another sweet treat that’s rarely seen on shop shelves in the UK thanks to its latest offer. Although the new addition pleased many, it did cause a little confusion.
On Facebook, someone posted a picture in the Snack Reviews Facebook group that showed off exactly what Malteasers fans can expect from the new Honeycomb pack now on sale in B&M. They’re being sold in stores in 140g packs and cost £2.99.
Chocolate lovers were quick to react at the sight of a new twist on the beloved classic chocolate, but some were more confused than excited. A few people wondered how the honeycomb flavour could be ‘new’ if Malteasers are already filled with it.
One asked: “But isn’t the inside of a Malteaser honeycomb?” Another had similar thoughts and said: “If it’s honey now, what was it before?” A third questioned the product, writing: “Am I being daft? The middle of a Maltester has ALWAYS been honeycomb hasn’t it?”
A few people swiftly pointed out that, as the name implies, the light and crunchy bite-sized treats are malted milk-based. Once formed, the balls are coated in a layer of chocolate, meaning they aren’t usually made from honeycomb.
Despite the confusion, there were still some clear fans of what B&M was offering. One said: “So it’ll be like eating balls of Crunchie? Sign me up!” Another added: “Is this a sick joke? Why when I decide to be on a diet when these came out?” A third commented: “Sounds delicious!”
These treats won’t be unfamiliar to some as Honeycomb Malteasers originate from Australia. B&M is known for importing ‘rarely seen’ chocolate bars from Down Under, such as the infamous Cherry Ripe as well as the fusion of Milkybar and Biscoff.
Malteasers has been a popular chocolate throughout British history. This was cemented further when a 2020 YouGov poll declared the original treat as the most popular confectionery in the UK.
Despite classic Malteasers already being on shop shelves since 1937, the treat has gone through major changes with special versions released here in the UK and around the world. Some versions switched up the coating – ditching milk chocolate for white or dark – whilst some added new flavours to the mix, like popcorn, mint, orange and raspberry, to name a few.
