Flights into Birmingham Airport were being diverted due to a power outage with a radar system.
Flights were being turned away after a technical issue that occurred in the early hours of Monday, January 12. Only departing flights were operating out of the airport.
The issue at a National Air Traffic Service’s (NATS) radar site caused long delays. Several flights were being diverted to East Midlands Airport and Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport.
“Due to a technical issue with NATS’ radar that serves Birmingham Airport, only departing flights are currently operating, with some delays,” a spokesperson said.
“All arriving flights are currently suspended. We apologise for the delay to customers, and we are working closely with NATS to rectify the issue,” the spokesperson added.
