With just 10 weeks left to go until Christmas Day, the winner of this year’s ‘best tasting’ Christmas range has officially been revealed with one supermarket dominating in dozens of categories
With Christmas now a mere ten weeks away, more and more households around the country will have turned their attention towards their Christmas dinners with several supermarkets having released a smorgasbord of tasty treats and trimmings to help you make the perfect festive meal. Yet despite an array of supermarkets having released their own Christmas ranges this year to take the faff out of festive meal prep, only one has been voted the ‘best tasting’ UK supermarket by Good Housekeeping’s annual Christmas Taste Test.
A crack team of foodie experts put each supermarket’s ranges through the ultimate test, with 730 products from 98 brands tested in total to decide once and for all, which shop had the best offerings for 2024. Yet at the end of the day there could only be one winner, with budget friendly chain Aldi having beat the likes of Tesco, M&S and Waitrose, to be crowned the best tasting Christmas range of 2024.
Sainsbury’s customers say they’ll ‘shop elsewhere’ as huge change made to checkouts
The brand’s Veuve Monsigny Premier Cru Champagne was one of the standout products, after it was voted Best Champagne by Good Housekeeping, making it the perfect tipple to get you into the holiday mood. The £22 bottle beat competitors on taste as well as price, with more expensive options such as Selfridges £34.99 and M&S’s £28 bottles, failing to surpass it’s bubbly dominance.
The retailer also scooped the top spot for its mince pies, after a panel of judges were left salivating over their “soft, flaky pastry” and “sweet, caramelised fruit filling”. Aldi’s Specially Selected Mince Pies, come in at a very purse friendly 38p, or £2.29 for a pack of six.
As for the main centrepiece, Aldi also came out on top with their mouthwatering Specially Selected Roly Poly Whole Turkey – which was named Best Whole Turkey for its “natural sweet flavour” and “umami depth.” It will be available in store from 19 December onwards.
This year also sees the return of Aldi’s Specially Selected Ultimate 5 Year Vintage Cheddar Bake which was awarded with top place for vegetarian starter. Priced at just £5.99, the chesty treat is due to go on sale from December 6.
No Christmas meal would be complete without a dessert however, and Aldi’s delicious Specially Selected Orange and Maple Pudding, costing just £9.99, was named best flavoured Christmas pudding, thanks to it’s sweet flavour. However fans will have to wait until November 1 before it hits store shelves.
Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, Julie Ashfield, said: “Christmas has come early with the Good Housekeeping Institute awards. From starters to desserts – and even the bubbly – we’ve got every course covered with awards, and we are delighted to be named Best Overall Grocer. Shoppers can count on Aldi to make Christmas amazing without breaking the bank.”
Aldi isn’t just an award winner at Christmas either, with the German-born supermarket chain having been named the cheapest supermarket in the UK by Which? for the 11th consecutive month in a row.
