British Transport Police were called to Beckenham Junction railway station in Bromley, southeast London, just before 4pm on Wednesday following reports of a fight on board a train

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing on board a train yesterday.

Officers were called to Beckenham Junction railway station in Bromley, southeast London, after the attack in front of horrified passengers. The victim, a man in his 20s, remains in a critical condition in hospital.

A knife has also since been recovered by officers at British Transport Police. The force was called to the station following reports of a fight on board the service. London Ambulance Service and Metropolitan Police also dashed to the station. A 19-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The victim’s family are being supported by specialist officers. Superintendent Darren Malpas, of British Transport Police, said: “We understand the concerns of the public following this incident and our detectives have been working tirelessly to investigate. I hope this arrest will bring some reassurance to those on the rail network. High-visibility patrols will continue in the area and across the network as a visible reassurance to the travelling public.

A manhunt was underway following the stabbing. Footage shared on social media showed a man holding a large blade, while onlookers could be heard telling him to stop and fellow passengers cried out in shock. An increased police presence has been seen in the area today and last night.

Beckenham Junction railway station is on the National Rail network and has a tram stop for Tramlink, part of the wider London Underground network. Most trains that call are operated by Southeastern, but some Southern services also call at Beckenham Junction.
