A young girl died suddenly after falling ill in a car park in Aberdeen, the day before her ninth birthday, leaving the local community in shock

A “beautiful” girl has tragically died after falling “unwell” in a car park in Aberdeen, the day before her ninth birthday.

Emergency crews rushed to the Kingwells Park and Ride on Skene Road after Olivia Grace Edwards, 8, became unwell at around 8.40pm on Saturday. The young girl was taken to the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital for treatment, where she was tragically pronounced dead a short time later.

A GoFundMe has been set up by family friend Kathryn Campbell to help the child’s parents, Mark and Georgina, pay for their daughter’s unexpected funeral.

The fundraiser reads: “My amazing best friends have lost their beautiful baby girl unexpectedly just one day before her 9th birthday. Her parents, sisters, family and friends are all heartbroken. Olivia was a beautiful, funny, sweet and amazing little girl and is going to be missed so much by all who knew her. Please can you help take some of the stress away by donating to help give this beautiful girl the best send off.”

Olivia leaves behind her parents, Mark and Georgina, and her sisters, Nieve and Hollie, the Daily Record reports.

Tributes have since poured in online. Claire Lumsden said: “Deeply saddened by the heartbreaking loss of beautiful Olivia. My sincere condolences to her family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”

Amy Simpson wrote: “Nieve and her dad’s family are truly heartbroken. Life is just so cruel. I can’t even imagine how Nieves’ dad, step mum, Holly, and Nieve are feeling at the moment. Beautiful little girl.”

Maureen Cowie added: “Hearing this sad news is just heartbreaking. My thoughts are with you all.”

Becca Munro said: “Beyond heartbreaking for everyone! Sending love to her family and friends.”

Police quickly launched an investigation and the area at Kingswells Park and Ride was cordoned off following the tragedy. One eyewitness said: “[There has been an] incident at Kingswells Park and Ride. Multiple police vehicles in attendance. Police have taped off the park and ride. No access into or out of the park and ride. One ambulance has been escorted away with multiple police vehicles.”

Police have confirmed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Olivia’s death, the cause of which has not yet been confirmed.
