Working outdoors is one of the perks of working from home, but if you need a little extra shade this beaded parasol from Dunelm adds some instant style to your garden
Nothing makes you more grateful for a work from home set up than when there’s a heatwave, and with another one incoming, we’re already planning our outdoor work space. However, shade is one of the most crucial parts of any set up in your garden, as not only does it protect you from the sun, but it makes sure you can still see your screen too.
The same is true whether you’re avidly typing away at your laptop, trying to watch something on your ipad, or even just reading your ebook while you relax. But whilst we’ve seen some clever makeshift set ups using cardboard boxes to shelter your screen, something a little more permanent – and stylish – is in order to see you through the sumer, like this Peacock and Gold Carousel Parasol from Dunelm.

Available for £100, the parasol is the perfect addition to any outdoor space, giving you shade from sun and adding a splash of colour to your garden. It comes in a bold peacock blue shade, and features gold trim and beading around the edge which gives it a chic, stylish look.
The Peacock and Gold Carousel Parasol is made from a lightweight material which makes it easy to move around the garden to follow the sun, and measures 2.85m in diameter for plenty of shade. To make it easier to open and close, it has a crank handle so you don’t need to spend ages struggling to push it up or pull it down.
It’s worth noting that the parasol doesn’t come with a base, which you’ll need to buy separately. Dunelm currently offers a choice of three different ones which are all a simple black design, although we also love this Grey Granite Parasol Base which is £49.99 from Wilko and has a more chic granite and chrome finish.
Argos also has a more affordable alternative, with the Habitat 2m Square Garden Parasol priced at just £75. This one also doesn’t come with a base, but has a 2m surface area and a more neutral cream colourway if you don’t want a pop of colour.
If you want something a little more dramatic, the Outdoor Freestanding Parasol from Debenhams is ideal. It’s currently on sale for £99 down from £199.99, and it not only comes with a metal base included, but also features solar-powered LED lights inside for added ambience.
However, the Peacock and Gold Carousel Parasol is a top pick if you want to brighten up your garden, and Dunelm shoppers agree. One reviewer said: “Great parasol, easy to assemble, provides good amount of shade and looks gorgeous.”
Someone else wrote: “A lovely parasol, ready to assemble, a good size of shade area and good quality. Looks lovely with the droplet trim and a lovely blue colour. Love it!”
Whilst a third said: “A beautiful parasol gorgeous colour looks amazing the crystal droplets really make it.”
One did mention, however: “The umbrella is exactly what I wanted, colour is gorgeous. My only problem is that it blows over in the slightest breeze and wish it was a bit shorter. I bought the base which was suggested when I ordered it but it seems too small and light. Such a shame.”
And another said: “Looks very nice, vintage appearance, bright colour. The beading in places a little loose. Easy to sort. Bending the umbrella to an angle as described very hard and I will probably not try again. Pleased overall. Happy with purchase. Had good comments.”
