As the UK gears up for another onslaught of snow over the next 72 hours, Linda Ludlow has revealed that she opted to stay at work rather than risk “falling over and injuring” herself
A BBC weather presenter has revealed that she was forced to abandon her travel plans and “bed down” in the studios as heavy snow descended on the UK. As the country braces for another onslaught of snow over the next 72 hours, with temperatures set to fall to as low as -12C, Brits up and down the UK must now contend with treacherous conditions, travel delays and school closures.
Considering her prominent meteorological position at the BBC, it makes perfect sense that Linda Ludlow would be well aware of the difficulties that the extreme winter weather can pose.
She recently proved this when she forecast snow at her Devon home and opted to stay at work rather than risk “falling over and injuring” herself. In fact, there “was only one option”, according to the Mail’s Richard Eden.
He revealed that Linda had decided to “bed down in the studios instead”; the presenter explained that it “wasn’t worth trying to get” there in the morning, and that people simply “couldn’t get out”.
Speaking from BBC Plymouth, she said: “I slept here. I had a sleeping bag. It wasn’t worth trying to get here this morning and falling over and injuring myself. People couldn’t get out, there were abandoned cars, some had crashed.”
Staying the night at the studios wasn’t as “exciting” as her children thought it might be, however, who believed it might be like the Ben Stiller-led fantasy film Night at the Museum.
In more light-hearted comments, She added: “My kids thought it was amazing – like the film Night at the Museum. It wasn’t that exciting.”
Met Office weather warnings are in place today, with cold Arctic air prompting meteorologists to issue warnings over snow and ice in northern Scotland and “icy patches” across the UK.
Meanwhile, the nation could face further issues in the days ahead with the impending arrival of Storm Goretti, which, in combination with the cold front, reportedly may lead to blizzard conditions in England and Wales.
Startlingly, temperatures are predicted to drop even further tonight, with a forecaster warning of an icy -12C.
Speaking last night, James Madden, from Exacta Weather, said: “Wintry weather features across our shores and weather fronts will continue to bring further bands of moderate to heavy snow showers and settling snow even to some much lower levels once again during this evening and into tomorrow across the northern half of the country and in some western and eastern coastal facing regions.”
He went on to say that some areas may also experience rain and sleet as it moves towards the south and “gradually peters out” on Wednesday, but the “potential is still there” for widespread or transient snow to “form over some quite vast areas”.
James explained that these range from central to southern areas, as the “leading edge of this wintry band” of weather moves “swiftly southwards” tonight and tomorrow.
He added that temperatures could fall as low as “-10 to -12C in some of the coldest spots of the far north” by Tuesday and Wednesday.
