Just before England’s bronze medal match against France began, one BBC pundit said, right next to Thomas Tuchel, there should be a change in management
BBC pundit Danny Murphy said Thomas Tuchel should be sacked after the World Cup clash with France – just as he was standing next to the England manager.
Tuchel was jeered by the Three Lions fans in Miami as his name was read out over the microphone. There is lingering anger about the way England were knocked out by Argentina in the World Cup semi-final.
The ex-Chelsea boss has also insisted he has no regrets about any of his decisions despite the 2-1 loss to the reigning champions. Before the match kicked off, Murphy, within earshot of Tuchel, made his feelings known about the German.

Speaking live on the BBC, he said: “I think he will keep his job, but I don’t think he should. He’s failed, and he’s failed in the same way we’ve failed before.
“It’s the biggest tournament in the world, and he had his opportunity. I think he probably will get the vote of confidence, but I think they should make a change.”

After the loss to Argentina, FA chief executive Mark Bullingham released a statement, making it clear Tuchel still has confidence. It read: “It is heartbreaking to be so close.
“The players and Thomas gave it everything today and the squad, coaches and staff could not have worked harder during the tournament.
“I would like to thank them all and also give my heartfelt thanks to our wonderful fans here in the USA and at home. We felt your support every step of the way and we are all so disappointed not to go further.”
Before the tournament, he also put pen to paper on a new contract which will see him through to the 2028 home European Championship. Tuchel also made it clear he will remain in charge beyond the World Cup, in his post-match press conference in Atlanta.
He said: “First of all, the World Cup is not over. There is still a match to play that we are not looking forward so much to, but there is still a match to play.
“Then we keep on going. I have a contract until the home Euros, and I’m looking forward to that, even now [when] it is difficult to look that far ahead.”
