London, England, United Kingdom, March 27, 2025 — The BASE Project marked a significant milestone with its 2nd General Assembly, held on February 12-13 at the Hyatt Regency, Manchester, hosted by Technovative Solutions Limited (TVS). Bringing together key consortium partners, the event focused on advancing the Digital Battery Passport (DBP) initiative—a crucial step toward a more transparent, sustainable, and circular battery supply chain.
The two-day event became vibrant with the discussions of the progress of the Digital Battery Passport project, including functional requirements, reference architecture, circularity indexes, use case presentations, sustainability vision, project management, risk assessment, and dissemination and communication among the consortium partners.
“A frozen, optimised BASE platform and architecture design along with finalised BASE system specifications and KPIs are the major milestones in this time-frame.”- mentioned Farhadur Arifin (Technovative Solutions Limited), Technical Manager, BASE Project, about the project progress.
Nineteen partner organisations from twelve different countries are working on the project. Together, these organisations are collaborating on nine work packages to ensure the project’s success. They are supporting the European DPP initiative, emphasising transparency and sustainability. Their goal is to redefine how batteries are perceived, produced, and utilised.
The use cases of the BASE project include Automotive (E-bus EV platform production for MARCEDES-BENZ and frugal EV platform production for FORD Motors), Marine (electric tugboat production), and Stationary (2nd-life electric energy storage production pilot).
“All partners have actively engaged in the workshops and presentations, contributing valuable insights. They have proposed numerous recommendations essential for the effective implementation of solutions. Additionally, BASE consortium is planning to put forward several suggestions and recommendations to the European Commission to enhance the clarity of the battery regulation.”, said Farhadur Arifin on partners’ active participation in the meetings and the overall project.
BASE is a 3-year long project under the call “HORIZON-CL5-2023-D2-02-03: Creating a digital passport to track battery materials, optimise battery performance and life, validate recycling, and promote a new business model based on data sharing (Batt4EU Partnership).” By leveraging digital passport technology, BASE is redefining the battery value chain—enhancing transparency, optimising performance, and enabling responsible recycling. As the project progresses, it continues to align with Europe’s push for a sustainable and data-driven battery ecosystem.
The project has received funding from the Horizon Europe Framework Programme (HORIZON) Research and Innovation Actions under grant agreement No 101157200.
