A spokesperson for South Wales Police said officers were called just before 5pm on Friday following reports that a boy suffered a “medical episode” at Barry Island Pleasure Park

A 16-year-old boy died despite the efforts of emergency service personnel who rushed to Barry Island Pleasure Park – the venue has now issued a statement about the tragedy.

An air ambulance was deployed to the Barry Island Pleasure Park in Barry, the Vale of Glamorgan, in south Wales on Friday night, the start of the bank holiday weekend and school half-term for many. Following a massive emergency operation, which began at around 5.15pm, South Wales Police confirmed the teenager experienced a “medical episode” and, despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was declared dead at the scene.

Now the pleasure park has spoken about the tragedy and offered its condolences to the boy’s family. It wrote today: “Very sad news yesterday all of our team did their best to assist the emergency services but unfortunately the boy suffered a medical emergency and couldn’t be saved. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this very sad time. Park remains open this morning 11m as usual.”

No further details about the boy – except his age – have been disclosed by police who have appealed to the public for information over the incident. South Wales Police asked anyone who was in the area when the tragedy happened should come forward.
