Jordan Cox, known as the Coupon Kid UK, shared a money saving hack for Zara fans – but not everyone is convinced
A bargain hunter expert has shared an innovative way to save money on clothes at popular high street brand Zara. Jordan Cox, also known as the Coupon Kid UK, said you should avoid buying from the clothing store in the UK and instead go abroad.
He told his followers that to complete the hack, shoppers should fly out to Spain, as a “Spanish Zara could actually be cheaper”. Jordan explained: “Because Zara is a Spanish company their prices out there are quite a lot cheaper than they are here. Take this red coat-jacket thing, it’s £40 less in Spain than it is in the UK..”
Jordan further explains that with flight prices “so cheap” at the minute, it would be possible to fly to Spain for a day trip or weekend, shop at Zara, and then save money.
He captioned the post: “Let your Zara fiends or other halves know. Because they’re a Spanish company, their prices are a lot cheaper out in Spain, than they are in the UK.
“So much so – if you have a list of items you want, it might actually be CHEAPER, to fly to Spain on a day trip for £30, do your shopping, and bring it home… than it is to shop here! Or just do the shopping on your next Spanish holiday!
“One example I found on the home page was a red jacket – £139 in the UK, and €119 in Spain (just over £100). That alone pays for your flight!
“You can search items on the Spanish Zara website (just by Googling it), to compare it to UK prices to see how much you save. Obviously, this is a bit tongue in cheek and not best for the ol’ carbon footprint – but if you wanted a mini holiday, this is a good excuse to save money! Or if you’re going to Spain already – it’s good to know.”
However a number of people found flaws with his ‘hack’, saying that you’d have to buy enough at Zara to make the flight cost worth it. Others said they “failed” to see the saving aspect.
Chris wrote: “Just one note, to make it worth the flight and effort you’ll have to buy enough, so you’ll need to book luggage on carriers like Ryanair for the return. Unless you want to try wearing everything and then squeeze into that narrow seat.”
@g_outdoors_42 said: “What money you would save on your Zara shopping would be absolutely blown on food drink and a two night hotel stay for two people. Parking at the airports fuel expenses other transport costs included… I fail to see the savings!”
@rachelbee suggested, “Can also look into claiming back Spanish VAT I’m sure,” while @gary_mace71 wrote, “That’ll work for well for the carbon footprint.”
