All customers have been emailed to explain what they need to do now
Fintech banking app Zero has ceased trading with thousands of customers being urged to move their money elsewhere now.
The Zero Sustainable Money App is closing and this will affect anyone who has a Zero Personal Account, Zero Debit Mastercard or Planet Safe Saver.
MoneySavingExpert.com says Zero has 21,500 registered users, though only 7,500 use its app regularly.
All customers have been emailed by Zero to explain what they need to do now. MSE says the app is scheduled to remain open until March 31 – but warned it could close sooner.
MSE writes: “You should withdraw your funds as soon as possible – ideally no later than 31 March when the app is due to close.” It added: “You should still be able to withdraw funds after 31 March, but it’s best not to wait.”
If you do not withdraw your funds, they should be held for six years and you would have to contact zero@transactpay.com to access it.
If you have a savings account with Zero, your money will be moved across to your Zero personal account – you will then need to transfer your funds to another account.
Zero Sustainable Money App was founded in Cardiff in 2023 and officially launched to the public in January 2025. The business said it is closing as it was unable to raise additional funding.
Its LinkedIn page was updated with the following message: “In March 2026, unable to raise more capital or find an acquiror, Zero Fintech Ltd has ceased trading.
“Zero offered a sustainable money app, current account, debit mastercard & savings account for the generation putting the planet first, with GreenScore to help you understand and reduce your impact on the planet.”
The GreenScore feature was an index that was created by analysing your spending habits, which then showed you how sustainable you are.
At the time of its launch, Zero said it wants to help customers understand the environmental impact of their spending habits.
Richard Theo, co-founder and chief executive officer of Zero, said at its launch: “Our vision is a world where money is a force for the good of the planet, where money will never be used for anything that’s harming the planet, such as fossil fuel production or deforestation.
“We’re aiming to bridge the gap between digital banking and effortless sustainability that simply isn’t available right now.”
