A baby has been rescued after being trapped in a blazing fire with another person in Leeds this morning – with three fire engines sent rushing to the horrific scene

Firefighters have managed to rescue a baby for a burning home this morning in Leeds.

Rescuers from the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue raced to the house fire in Copperfield View just after 9.30am today. There, they then discovered an adult and a baby were trapped inside.

Three engines were sent to the scene, including two from Hunslet and one from Leeds, where they found the house ablaze. A while later, firefighters rescued the person in question, alongside the baby from the building – before putting the flames out.

In a statement issued to Leeds Live, a fire and rescue spokesperson said: “We were called at 09.32 this morning to reports of a fire at a property on Copperfield View. We sent three crews, two from Hunslet and one from Leeds. On arrival, firefighters rescued one adult and one baby from the property and extinguished the fire before leaving the scene.”

It comes as a 10-year-old girl tragically died in a house fire in Bradford, according to police. A woman, 37, and three children aged 11, six, and three have meanwhile been treated in hospital after escaping the blaze, authorities said, although their injuries are deemed to be survivable.

West Yorkshire Police were called to the house on a residential street in the city shortly after 1am on Sunday morning. The force said in a statement: “At 1.08 this morning (5 May) police were called by the fire service to reports of a serious house fire on Kingsdale Drive, Bradford. A woman and three children managed to escape the property and were taken to hospital for treatment. Their injuries are not life-threatening.

“A fourth child was found inside the address and was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. A scene is currently in place at the address and police are working with the fire investigators to establish the exact cause of the fire.”

Police have since confirmed the victim was a 10-year-old girl, and that the blaze is not being treated as suspicious. The Mirror since contacted West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service for further confirmation.

Flowers had already been laid at the house which remained sealed off on Sunday afternoon, while an upstairs window appeared to have been either kicked out or forced out. One neighbour told how she had seen the children playing out earlier in the day.

“It’s really sad especially after having seen them playing out,” the mum told Yorkshire Live. Another resident on the quiet cul-de-sac said she woke to the noise of dogs barking, adding that the child who died had been a friend of her daughter’s.

“I said that’s the girl’s bedroom – I shouted to the fire brigade. I didn’t know they had got three out already. The fire brigade went straight in,” said the woman. “I’m absolutely gutted – it’s my daughter’s friend.”
