Witnesses reported seeing shoppers flee Asda in Bootle after an evacuation and rumours of an alleged bomb threat – the real reason for the evacuation has now been revealed
An Asda store descended into chaos this morning after shoppers were left ‘crying and screaming’ as they were forced to evacuate after rumours of an alleged bomb threat.
One horrified witness described scenes of carnage as everyone ran away “screaming”, adding it was “one of the scariest things that’s ever happened to me.” The witness continued: “[They’re] saying a bomb in there, everyone stay away from Asda Bootle!!!!” Another person, taking to X, claimed it was wired headphones that roused suspicion before shoppers were forced to leave. “Bootle is mad cos how does someone wearing wired headphones lead to Asda being evacuated cos someone thought it was bomb wires,” the user said.

Another confused local simply asked “Anyone know what’s going on in the Asda Bootle?” A fourth chimed in: “Terrorist with bomb attached in bootle Asda wtf,” while another user said: “A bomb scare at the bootle Asda is one way to start me Friday.”
Others responded with skepticism. “Some of the most ridiculous people in the world live in this city why would someone have a bomb in the Asda in bootle”, one said. Another added: “A terrorist running round bootle Asda apparently, you could tell Facebook mas they were an alien and they’d believe you.”
Merseyside Police later confirmed the reason behind the evacuation, which happened at around 10am on Friday, June 6.
The force said they were called to the branch following reports of “suspicious behaviour” involving a man holding an item. Officers arrived on scene and the item turned out to be a charging cable, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police said.
After carrying out enquiries, officers concluded it was a false alarm made in good faith. They have since left the scene and the store has re-opened.
