The exact opening hours for your local Asda will vary based on your location, but here is a rough guideline

Asda has updated its opening times for the upcoming bank holiday Monday – so shoppers will want to take note of when stores will shut.

There are two bank holidays in May, with the first being on Monday, May 4. In the run-up to this, Asda stores will be open as normal on Friday, May 1, Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3.

But on the bank holiday Monday, stores may close earlier than normal, depending on where you live. The exact opening hours will vary based on your location, but here is a rough guideline.

On bank holiday Monday, the majority of large Asda supermarkets in England and Wales will open from 8am to 10pm. There will be no change for smaller Asda Express convenience stores.

In Scotland, there are no legal restrictions on trading hours for large shops on Sundays or bank holidays. This means Asda stores in Scotland should be open as normal on the bank holiday Monday.

Again, make sure you check local store opening times online before you head off to your nearest branch, just to avoid disappointment in case their times are slightly different.

It comes after Asda revealed a slump in sales and earnings over the past year. In an update last month, the supermarket said sales, excluding fuel, dropped by 3.3% to £21billion in 2025, compared with a year earlier.

Adjusted earnings tumbled by a third to £764million for the year.

Asda is in the middle of a major turnaround under returning boss Allan Leighton, after losing share in the UK grocery market to rivals including Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Lidl.

However, transformation efforts were set back by a botched £1billion IT upgrade last year. The company said it faced “severe disruption” linked to the IT transition, resulting in reduced product availability and weaker sales.

In the fresh update, Mr Leighton, executive chairman of the business, said sales declined 2.4% in the final quarter of last year as it continued to feel the impact of the IT disruption.

However, he said the business now has “positive momentum” and is returning to sales growth. He said: “There is plenty to do but there is also plenty of upside. We have that momentum and a strong balance sheet to allow us to push forward.”

Asda said availability has now recovered to an eight-year high of 95% leading to stronger sales in recent months. Total like-for-like sales fell by 1.6% in January and by 1% in February but have grown by 1.2% so far in March.
