Police rushed to the scene of the Manchester suburb of New Moston with officers reportedly ‘all over’ nearby Nuthurst Road, Moston Lane East and Parkhurst Avenue

Armed police have descended on a city suburb and a school has locked down following reports of a “man with a knife”.

Greater Manchester Police rushed to a residential street in New Moston, a suburb of Manchester, this afternoon following reports that a member of staff at a doctor’s surgery was threatened with a knife.

Armed officers were seen swarming the streets after a school was placed on lockdown, with a police helicopter seen circling overhead and people “all over”.

Pictures show police cars stationed outside a nearby school, with other police vehicles driving down residential streets with their lights flashing.

Others said the entrances to nearby Nurhurst park was “surrounded” by the officers at around 3pm, as GMP confirmed they were called to a doctor’s surgery.
