The Echo Dot Max has hit its cheapest ever price seeing shoppers ‘upgrade their other devices.’
Amazon’s ultimate speaker upgrade, the Echo Dot Max, delivers enhanced audio in a refreshed package. Amid the brand’s Spring Deals Day sale, it’s just become a lot cheaper to buy.
As the newest in the fleet, it initially launched at the £100 mark, well, £99 to be exact, but the Spring sale event has seen it drop to the lowest price yet of £69.99. However, this deal ends on March 16.
For those wondering about its differences from the already household-famed Echo Dots, the Dot Max has had an upgrade, both in look and sound. There are three times the bass level compared to previous models, and its new knitted-mesh design not only looks good but also helps roll out sound.
The upgraded design has been compared to the likes of Apple’s HomePod Mini, and as I’ve had one on my desk since launch, I can see the resemblance. Although I would still rate the Echo Dot Max for smart home connectivity, which is exactly what these Alexa-powered devices have always kept in mind.
“After months of testing this latest iteration of the beloved Alexa-enabled device, I can confidently say it outperforms its predecessors. Boasting a host of improvements, this compact speaker detects my voice more effectively”, these were my thoughts when I first reviewed the device five months ago.

The Echo Dot Max is Amazon’s newest 2025 speaker, which has been redesigned to help boost sound, has improved bass, and adapts sound to users’ spaces.
- Great sound
- Alexa is responsive
- Bass is noticably improved
- New mesh design – for an improved look and sound
- Price – much more expensive
- Alexa+ is not out in the UK, yet
Countless playlists, podcasts and songs later, my verdict is still the same. The Echo Dot Max has a handful of features my older 1st Gen Echo Dot lacked. Including a convenient ‘tap-to-pause’ function and a much sharper audio.
As I have previously highlighted: “The audio quality is noticeably crisper, more defined, and fills every nook of whichever room it occupies – a compelling reason to opt for this over an older, less expensive version.”
Since using it, another user shared on Amazon that they’d ‘upgrade their other devices too’. They said: “Bought this (and the pedestal stand) as an upgrade to the Echo Dot Gen 3 in the living room, which will now go in the bathroom. The sound quality really is as good as claimed.
“I’ve got Echos all around the house and generally stream radio “on the Everywhere group”, which means I can keep the volume down so as not to annoy the neighbours, and also it only uses one download stream, so all the devices stay perfectly in sync.”
Calling it a ‘great upgrade’, another person said: “Great sound quality improvement over previous gen, purchased for an upgrade to existing Echo Dot pair. The initial setup was easy, but BT pairing is always a fiddle.”
One concern I wrote about during the launch, and it’s still the same now, is that a major selling point of this latest device involves its compatibility with Alexa+, but this is yet to be rolled out in the UK. This new software is expected to bring enhanced performance and a deeper level of AI upgrades.
For a comparable price to the Echo Studio, consumers might also want to look at the Sonos Era 100 (which costs £199). This wireless smart speaker has a compact design and offers compatibility with Alexa.
