The teenager got into difficulty in the water at High Dam Tarn near Windermere

Tributes have been pouring in for an ‘amazing’ Blackpool sixth form pupil who tragically drowned after swimming at a Lake District beauty spot earlier this week.

On Tuesday (April 7), a widescale search was launched after a member of the public raised the alarm that Absi Ahmed had got into difficulty at the High Dam Tarn, near Windermere. Cumbria Police raced to the scene shortly after 12.30pm where they established the teen as missing.

The desperate search involved police, fire and ambulance services, the coastguard and mountain rescue teams while local farmers helped carry personnel and equipment over rough terrain. Searches were also conducted along the shoreline, water surface and underwater, reports Lancs Live.

Sadly, the force confirmed later that evening that a body had been found and the death was not being treated as suspicious.

The teen who died has now been named locally in a post by Fylde Cricket Club as Absi Ahmed, of Poulton-le-Fylde.

Absi, a student at Blackpool Sixth Form, played junior cricket at the club and earned his first senior cap in 2024. A club spokesperson said: “Everyone at Fylde Cricket Club would like to express our deepest condolences to our 3rd XI Captain, Adil, and his family, following the tragic loss of his brother Absi earlier this week.

“Absi played junior cricket at the club and was proudly presented with senior cap number 205 in 2024 when he represented the 3rd XI. Our thoughts are with Absi’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“As a club, we stand beside you and send our heartfelt love, strength and support. You are part of our Fylde family, and we are here for you always.

“We will hold a minute’s applause before all of our friendly fixtures this weekend to remember Absi.”
