The fault came at the worst time for the supermarket chain, as December was set to be one of the busiest shopping days of the year, according to the market research firm Kantar

Morrisons shoppers are being given 10% off their entire Christmas shop today.

The supermarket chain said the discount is a gesture of goodwill after yesterday’s chaos. On December 23, a major technical fault prevented shoppers from claiming discounts in stores through the More Loyalty scheme, cancelled home deliveries, and delayed click-and-collect orders.

Morrisons offered its loyalty scheme customers 10% off their shop yesterday as they were unable to offer them the Morecard prices. However, to apologise for the issues, Morrisons More customers will continue to get 10% off their shopping all day today.

Morrisons says the issue has now been fixed, and the shopping experience was “back to normal” as of this morning. A spokesperson told the Mirror: “Today the Morrisons store experience is back to normal, but all More Card customers will still get 10% off their whole shop instore throughout the day. Click and Collect and Home Deliveries are working as normal.”

The supermarket chain is open today across the country; however, each of Morrisons’ 500 branches will have different opening hours. Today, supermarket stores will open as normal between 6am and 7am, but they will close much earlier, between 6pm and 7pm – usually they open until 10pm or 11pm.

Some people managed to get the 10% off their shop at the supermarket yesterday. One person said: “I can confirm that the 10% off works on self service, I just used it.” Another said: “Just had email from Morrisons, the morecard price offers that were not deducted this morning have been made up with morecard fivers, so alls well that ends well plus 10% off tomorrow.”

A third posted: “So this is why I got extra money off! Haha, a good day to buy gift cards!!” While a fourth commented: “I went about an hour ago and was given 20% off.” However, other shoppers are reporting that the 10% discount was not applied to their bill. One person posted: “Over charged yesterday. No 10% off yesterday. Staff unaware. Tweets and press release advising 10% off. BBC news quotes you can go in with your receipts to get the 10%. Store Manager knows nothing of it and is obviously busy with the chaos yesterday.”

Another said: “Thanks – but shopped yesterday and didn’t get the 10% off as stated? Have already DM’d but no response!” A third added: “If we didn’t get our 10% discount yesterday can we take the receipt back in next week and receive the refund?” In response, the Morrisons X team apologised for the mistake and asked shoppers to DM them with their email and More Card number and one of their team will look into it as soon as possible.
