Disney+ has finally confirmed when Alien: Romulus will be streaming in the UK, months after it debuted in the US
Alien: Romulus finally has a Disney+ release date months after launching in the US. The latest instalment in the iconic sci-fi-horror franchise premiered in cinemas in August before debuting on US streamer Hulu in November.
Now after a long wait, Disney+ has confirmed it will be available to stream in the UK from January 15, when it will join the previous instalments in the franchise. Disney+ now starts at £4.99 per month, but members can get the equivalent of two months free by paying for a year up front on the Standard or Premium plan, bagging 12 months for the price of 10.
The film follows a group of six young colonisers who, with dreams of escaping to a better life on a distant planet, scavenge the deep ends of a derelict space station. While onboard, they come face-to-face with the most relentless and deadly life form in the universe, the Xenomorph.

Alien: Romulus stars Priscilla and Civil War actress Cailee Spaeny in the lead role, alongside BAFTA Rising Star Nominee David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Isabela Merced, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu. It was directed and co-written by Fede Álvarez, the filmmaker behind Don’t Breathe and 2013’s Evil Dead.
Ridley Scott – who directed the original Alien – serves as producer. The film has become the second highest-grossing film in the Alien franchise, taking more than $105 million worldwide and sitting behind 2012’s Prometheus.
Disney+ now costs as little as £4.99 a month, but members can get 12 months for the price of 10 by paying for a year upfront on the ad-free Standard or Premium plans.
Disney+ is the only place to stream hit shows like Rivals, The Bear and Shōgun, plus blockbuster franchises like Star Wars and Marvel.
It was well received by critics and general audiences, with The Times hailing it as ‘the best alien film since the Ridley Scott original’. Radio Times described it as ‘a tense and engaging spectacle’, while Empire called it ‘a cavalcade of exceptional craft’.
It also boasts an 85% Rotten Tomatoes audience score, but some viewers have criticised its use of nostalgia through nods and call-backs to previous films. It comes ahead of the launch of the new Disney+ series Alien: Earth, which is set to debut later this year and serve as a prequel to the 1979 original.
Elsewhere, Sky has just unveiled a new TV plan ideal for movie buffs. The £35 Essential TV and Sky Cinema bundle provides access to more than 1,000 films on demand, as well as top channels like Sky Atlantic and subscriptions to Netflix and Discovery+.
