Aldi says shoppers could claim the ‘perfect on-the-go convenience’ pouch for a bargain

Aldi shoppers could give the impression they’ve spent far more on a convenient bag when, in reality, it costs less than £5. The bargain accessory looks remarkably similar to a popular designer label, which often demands much more from bank accounts than the supermarket lookalike version.

Newly landing in the SpecialBuy area this week, Aldi’s Mini Tote Bag comes in a variety of colours (black, navy or beige) and costs just £5. Supermarket bosses call it “perfect for on-the-go convenience” to carry daily essentials “in style”.

The Mini Tote, made from recycled polyester, has leather-look handles and a cross-body strap that matches the colour of the bag itself. The small design seems ideal for carrying a few daily essentials, like a phone or set of keys, when a regular-sized bag might be too bulky or inconvenient.

These bags have a very similar style to another popular, and more expensive brand. When compared side-by-side, the Aldi bags look almost identical to Joules, sold in places like Next for close to £30.

The branded bag uses leather-look accents very similarly, including the handles and zippers. The crossbody straps are different: Joules’ has a thinner, leather-look strap, while Aldi’s matches the body of the bag.

The SpecialBuy section of Aldi refreshes twice a week, wth shoppers getting new items added each Thursday and Sunday throughout the year. This latest drop came on March 5 as part of a clothing event that also included £6 Garden Clogs, £10 Waffle Pyjamas and more – see the full selection here.

The rest of the event included items from homeware, laundry, cleaning, food and more. To stay up to date with SpecialBuy releases, fo to the Aldi website here to preview what is coming before it arrives in stores.

In other Aldi news, store bosses have announced ‘reduced hours’ are coming to hundreds of stores across the UK within a matter of weeks. The change is not permanent, though, and it is due to the four-day Easter bank holiday weekend starting on April 3, 2026.

This year, Easter Sunday falls on April 5, giving Brits a long weekend between Friday, April 3 and Monday, April 6. These bank holidays will affect the opening times of local Aldi stores, bosses have confirmed, with opening hours set to be shorter than usual.

Aldi stores will be open between 8am and 9pm on Good Friday and Easter Saturday. Stores will close on Easter Sunday “to give colleagues a chance to enjoy the day with their loved ones”, bosses say.

The UK’s fourth-largest supermarket will reopen on Easter Monday between 8am and 8pm. Customers are advised to check local store hours online for any variations over the weekend.
