Mark Brown, from Middlesbrough could not believe his eyes when he tucked into the festive mince pie from his local Aldi supermarket – only to find it empty

A shopper has been left stumped after tucking into a festive pie from Aldi to find it had no filling inside.

Mark Brown joked his Christmas was “ruined” after he made the disappointing discovery. He purchased the £2.79 item from his local branch of the budget supermarket.

The 42-year-old had planned to test out some of the brand’s Christmas items this festive season. One of the items was a pack of two Crestwood festive pies that are filled with chicken breast pieces, gravy, a pig in a blanket and all the trimmings.

They are then packed into a shortcrust pastry base topped with a puff pastry lid. But all Mark, from Middlesbrough, found when he tucked into the pie was one pig in a blanket.

“Christmas is ruined,” he claimed to What’s The Jam. It’s like they forgot to put the filling inside. Maybe you’re supposed to get one filled and one not filled.”

Pals were left shocked by the empty pie. Paige Highway said: “We had a pie from Aldi and honestly there was nothing in it, no gravy, no meat. Haven’t had another one since, pastry was nice though.”

Claire added: “Pie roulette for tea.”

Mark stated: “Christmas cracker pie, some ate a disappointment.”
Another said: “Oh blimey.”

Denise Salvona said: “What a swizz. If you buy a pack of two pies you expect two to be filled.”

Aldi has been approached for a comment.
