Several major supermarkets are bucking the high street trend with new store openings in 2026

Despite the wave of shop closures, it’s not all doom and gloom for the high street – some retailers are defying the odds this year.

A host of new shops are set to open their doors in 2026. Lidl alone is launching 19 new outlets, with Aldi and Sainsbury’s among the supermarket chains also planning new openings.
