Founded in 1961, Aldi has garnered an army of loyal customers across the globe, eager to snap up its extensive range of food, homeware and household items – and its new Jaffa Cakes are no exception
Aldi shoppers are eager to get their hands on an “interesting” new flavour of Jaffa Cakes.
The popular supermarket chain is known and loved for its budget-friendly essentials and lifestyle products. Founded in 1961 in Germany, it has amassed a legion of loyal customers across the globe, eager to snap up its extensive range of food, homeware and household items.
One new snack on its shelves has caught the attention of those with a sweet tooth – its own version of a Cherry Bakewell flavour of the quintessentially British snack, Jaffa Cakes. Aldi has a reputation for launching its own iterations of popular products – even getting into an infamous dispute with Marks & Spencer over its caterpillar cake – and this item is no different.
The Aldi Belmont Cherry Bakewell Jaffa Cakes, which come in packs of 12, caused a frenzy when recently shared on social media. Hit account New Foods UK – which boasts more than 366K followers on Instagram and prompts new products spotted in supermarkets and shops up and down the country to be discussed and analysed by the masses – shared an image of the budget-friendly retailer’s Cherry Bakewell treats.
Captioning the picture, which has so far gained more than 10,000 likes, New Foods UK penned: “New Cherry Bakewell Jaffa Cakes!! Wasn’t too sure how good these would be, but the Cherry Bakewell flavour is spot on!”
Keen shoppers rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts. One person tagged a friend and said: “If you’re in Aldi and you see these could you pretty please get me some”, while another simply said: “Interesting”.
Someone else, who’s already tried them, said: “I can confirm they are spectacular – highly recommend”. Tagging a friend, another commented: “I’ll start at Jaffa cake stash before you get here”.
One shopper worried about the rise in popularity of the snack: “Noo don’t share these, they were the best kept secret! I used to have to travel to France for these God-Tier mouthfuls!”
But others weren’t so sure. One person asked a pal: “How do we feel about these? I bloody love a Jaffa Cake and can happily see off a cherry Bakewell but put your hands together…..I’m not sure”.
Their friend replied: “Ahhh yeah I’m not sold on these? I don’t mind a cherry Bakewell. Next time I’m in there I’ll see if they have them, taste test required”.
Another person declared: “Not for me”, while another took a stronger opposition with: “Just no. Companies need to stop a**ing about with chocolate. Jaffa cakes should be orange, and nothing else.”
