Jordon Cox, who regularly shares his money saving tips on ITV’s This Morning, has explained how Aldi shoppers can benefit from a ‘secret code’ that appears on the labels of some products
Aldi customers have been urged to be on the lookout for a “secret code” on the retailer’s in-store products that could help them secure substantial savings. Jordon Cox, who is known on social media as the Coupon Kid and has appeared on ITV’s This Morning, turned to Instagram to reveal how it works.
In footage filmed inside one of the supermarket’s branches, he encouraged his followers to keep their eyes peeled for items set to be discontinued. “There’s a secret code at Aldi,” Jordon explained. “You should know about it!”
But how exactly do you identify these products on the shelves?
The answer lies in the letter ‘D’, as Jordon explained: “On pricing labels, if you see a ‘D’ in the top right corner, that item’s being discontinued. So when the shelf is cleared, they won’t be restocking!”
He added that while such labels frequently appear on Aldi’s Specialbuys and limited-time offerings, they can occasionally crop up in other areas of the store as well.
“If it’s something you want, and it’s a good deal – stock up before it’s sold out,” Jordon recommended.
“The D can be small… you might need to squint. It could save you a bit of money… or turn your supermarket shopping into a bit of a game!”
Writing in response, one Instagram user confessed: “Oh I wish I knew this before they discontinued the rocky road bites. They were one of their best cakes.”
Meanwhile, a second commenter suggested: “It’s only discontinued for that season as it will return at a much later date.”
And a third person wrote: “I think the bright red reduced tag is more of a clue.”
Aldi outlines its pricing strategy on its website: “Aldi frequently reviews our prices to ensure we remain competitive and pass savings on to customers. Price drops can happen regularly, so it’s a good idea to keep an eye on our weekly ads.
“Aldi is all about value, so we regularly adjust prices to match market conditions. We also have weekly Specialbuys and limited-time offers, so there’s always a bargain to snag.”
Meanwhile, Jordon’s own website, Deal A Day, describes his money-saving exploits: “He [Jordon] once got a £600 supermarket shopping trip for 4p, by using supermarket coupons, and also travelled from Sheffield to Essex via Berlin to save £8 on a train journey.
“Safe to say, he knows his stuff, and will go to extreme lengths to get a good deal.”
