With Father’s Day just around the corner, we’ve spotted a pair of ‘amazingly versatile’ trainers that are perfect for gifting to Dad ‘for daily walks and work’

Dads can sometimes be tricky to buy for when Father’s Day rolls around, so getting him something useful is often a wise choice. A pair of trainers can last years, proving to be the gift that keeps on giving long after June 21 has been and gone.

Selfridges is often a gifting go-to for many, thanks to the wide variety of brands all under one virtual roof. Stocking big names such as adidas, Axel Arigato, New Balance and more, the retailer has a shoe for every father figure.

One particular standout design I rate as a fashion writer is the adidas Handball Spezial as it’s both a mega comfortable yet classic choice. This £89.99 navy blue option not only looks stylish but is also practical for everyday wear thanks to the darker hue.

Ideal for teaming with jeans, shorts and more, I always look for trainers like these that’ll give a decent cost-per-wear. Would-be buyers needn’t just take my word for it though, as the trainers – which come in a variety of colours – are rated highly online by shoppers.

The shoes have been reviewed over on adidas’ website, where they’re also sold priced at £90. Boasting a near-perfect review score of 4.8 out of five stars from over 7,000 ratings, they’re hugely popular thanks to their comfy fit and easy to style design.

One reviewer said: “I have several of these trainers in various colours, very comfortable and look smart with shorts or jeans.”

Meanwhile a second raved: “My go to shoe. These are possibly the most comfortable shoes ever. I was able to break these in quickly and wear them for daily walks and for work.”

One did mention a minor drawback when wearing white socks, commenting: “A nice trainer but can stain the top of socks. Also you can really feel the materials when wearing but other than that great.”

Despite this, someone else said: “The Spezial is a shoe that I will buy time and time again. Amazing comfort and a colour for every outfit.”

A further reviewer commented: “I am a fan of handball Spezial and already had a beige pair. This black version is amazingly versatile.

“I wear them with different styles and love the way they upgrade my look. Plus, they are very comfortable, in particular for the arch support which makes walking more comfortable for longer distances.”

For those who prefer a classic black, there’s also the Handball Spezial Suede and Leather Low-Top Trainers for £105 which feature a 100% suede upper and a comfy rubber gum sole. If the adidas Spezial design doesn’t suit, then here’s some of our other favourite designs for Father’s Day…

AXEL ARIGATO Clean 90 leather trainers – £215

This classic shoe boasts a lace up fastening with a stylish gold-toned brand stamp. Perfect for wearing with all manner of outfits, one slight drawback is that they may prove tricky to keep clean for the messier Dads. Alternatively, Ralph Lauren is selling its Heritage Court II Leather Trainer priced at £125 which offers a similar minimalist vibe.

New Balance1906A Woven Trainers – £140

Those who tend to opt for a chunkier trainer may wish to consider this option from New Balance. Already sold out in some sizes such is its popularity, the shoe features a graphite magic blue colourway that’s easy to style for year-round wear.

It’s worth noting they’re labelled as wipe clean only which may be impractical for some, however a slightly more budget-friendly alternative may be Nike’s P-6000 trainers in off white suede which come in a little cheaper at £109.99 from ASOS.

ON Cloudtilt Remix Woven Trainers – £150

Arguably a comfy option thanks to its CloudTec Phase™ midsole that offers wearers a smooth sensation, these trainers are selling fast. Created with a Helion™ superfoam to give super soft landings, they’re a great option for Dads who spend a lot of time on their feet.
