‘My skin looks brighter and my breakouts have cleared quicker since using the mask’

LED face masks are a growing beauty trend, backed by science and tech these gadgets can change the way your skin feels and looks. In growing demand, these blue, yellow, green, and red light devices offer a treatment for something completely different.

It’s why some masks can have an eye-watering high cost, until now as retailer LookFantastic proves you don’t have to wait around until Black Friday for discounts. The brand has reduced its MAGNITONE London Get Lit LED Bundle by 30% – cutting the price from £115 to £80.50.

Whether it’s using red light for inflammation, blue to help minimise the look of blemishes, or yellow light for its glow-like benefits. The LED helps penetrate the skin to create a photochemical and enzymatic reaction – jargon aside there are a host of scientific benefits that can’t always be achieved by using skincare retinol, cleaners, and toners.

The kit includes the LED face mask, microfibre cleansing cloths, and natural makeup remover swipes, many staple products you’d need to take off makeup and refresh your face after a long day. The mask comes with three different settings; yellow light, blue light, and red light which can all be used for different treatments.

As LookFantastic explains in the description: “The blue light works to decongest the skin and soothe the appearance of blemishes, while the red light promotes a firmer-looking complexion. Complete with a yellow light for a brightening effect, the mask encourages a visibly glowing finish.”

The mask is portable so it could also be bundled into a suitcase for a holiday as well as using it at home, it’s rechargeable with a standard USB port, and has a safety feature where it automatically shuts off after 15 minutes.

“Great value set as cheaper than buying mask on its own”, said one shopper who bought the bundle for her daughter to help with blemishes. They said: “She has slight acne scarring. The mask itself is easy to charge and use, it sits comfortably on the face.”

While another person reviewed how they’d seen a difference in their skin: “I think it is helping my skin. It does look a bit brighter and my breakout has lessened quicker than usual. Time will tell.

“But for the price, if you spend money on skincare anyway, then this is worth a shot.” Some shoppers, however, were not as reassured: “Not 100% it works great but I’ve noticed a little change in my redness of my skin. I use this 15 min about five times a week, sometimes I use 30 min and use two different settingg” said one shopper who didn’t rate the set a full five-stars.

Another recent shopper gave it a two-star rating as they were still waiting to see the effects, stating ‘time will tell, it was too early to comment on the results’.

How does the LED tech help skin?

LED face masks emit near-infrared light, which are dermatologically and clinically recongised for anti-ageing effects. Penetrating into the skin the wavelengths can reach deeper than standard skincare products, even retinols and liquid exfoliators.

Calling the products a ‘booster in your usual skincare routine’ experts at Dermacare Direct share how it can help improve the skin. As they state on their site: “Not only can they improve skin concerns such as skin hydration, skin texture, and stimulate collagen production but they are also clinically proven to kill the acne-causing bacteria P. acnes to result in an overall clearer complexion.”

Alternative to the bundle sale at LookFantastic there are other places where you can buy LED Masks. Including at Boots and Selfridges, like this one from Dr Dennis Gross Skincare (£465).
