Meanwhile, Frank Lampard’s side have made an approach for Wolves defender Conor Coady, who is looking increasingly likely to leave Molineux in search for regular minutes ahead of the World Cup. Chelsea potential lineup

Our colleagues over at Football.London have been discussing Chelsea’s potential starting lineup for tomrrow’s season-opener at Everton.

The Blues come to Goodison Park on the back of a busy summer in which they have spent over £150million, but a disappointing pre-season and the loss of some key players – namely Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen at the back – has been cause for concern at Stamford Bridge.

Kalidou Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling are both widely expected to make their debuts tomorrow, while Marc Cucurella – who signed just in time to be eligible – has also been backed for a start.

21:36Kyle Newbould

Marc Cucurella registered in time to face Everton tomorrow

Chelsea’s latest arrival Marc Cucurella was registered in time to face Everton tomorrow, should Thomas Tuchel choose.

The former Brighton full-back arrived at Stamford Bridge earlier today in a deal worth in excess of £60million – taking their total summer spending past £150million. And by registering as a Chelsea player before midday, he is eligible for tomorrow’s trip to Goodison Park.

Whether Tuchel will throw the Spaniard in at the deep end remains to be seen, but the Blues boss didn’t sound certain regarding Ben Chilwell’s fitness.

FT: Everton U21 2-0 Blackburn U21

Everton under-21s kicked off their 2022/2023 Premier League 2 campaign with a 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

Sean McAllister scored two minutes after the break to add to Tom Cannon’s opener and give the Toffees all three points.

Cornet joins West Ham

West Ham have confirmed the signing of Maxwel Cornet.

The former Burnley winger has arrived at the London Stadium following the activation of this £17.5million release clause. Everton and Frank Lampard were keen to bring the Ivory Coast international to Goodison Park but moved instead for Dwight McNeil.

The last time Chelsea came to Goodison

Everton kick-off their 2022/2023 Premier League campaign in less than 24 hours when they welcome Chelsea to Goodison Park.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have spent over £150million this summer, bringing in Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Carney Chukwuemeka and Marc Cucurella. But the London club have lost all of their last four trips to Everton and will be fully aware of the fervent home support that will meet them.

Here’s a reminder of what happened last time Tuchel’s Blues came to the Grand Old Lady – not that any of you need reminding:

Onana medical set as Everton eye huge double swoop

Amadou Onana is due to undergo a medical at Everton, the ECHO understands.

The Toffees hijacked West Ham’s pursuit of the Lille midfielder earlier this week and have now finalised personal terms and agreed a fee in excess of £30million.

And now the 20-year-old is a successful medical away from becoming a Blue, with Frank Lampard closing in on a return for Idrissa Gueye – who was left out of Paris Saint-Germain’s squad to face Clermont this weekend.

17:15Kyle Newbould

Onana deal includes 20% sell-on clause

Confirmation as well from Fabrizio Romano, who added that Lille will receive 20% of any future sale as part of the deal.

Romano adds that Idrissa Gueye is ‘one step away’ from a Merseyside return after being left out of the Paris Saint-Germain squad.

17:07Kyle Newbould

Further confirmation of Onana done deal

Further credence that Amadou Onana to Everton is all but done, subject to a medical, from the Mirror’s David Maddock.

The Belgian will sign a five-year deal on Merseyside and could be in attendance for tomorrow’s clash against Chelsea.

17:04Kyle Newbould

Onana medical tomorrow

Amadou Onana is set to undergo his medical tomorrow ahead of a £33.7million move to Everton, according to the Times’ Paul Joyce.

The 20-year-old could be at Goodison Park to watch the Toffees Premier League opener against Chelsea.

Tuchel and Chelsea ‘know what is coming’

Thomas Tuchel has admitted that his Chelsea side ‘know what is coming’ at Goodison Park this weekend. The Champions League hopefuls come to Merseyside for the opening weekend of the 2022/2023 Premier League campaign.

It has been just over three months since Tuchel’s Blues last played at Goodison, with a carnival-like atmosphere in and out of the ground helping Frank Lampard’s side to a pivotal 1-0 win.

Here’s some of what Tuchel had to say:

We need nothing more to know what is coming. Fantastic atmosphere, very emotional crowd, very emotional team. Of course, we know some familiar faces on the other side of the bench.

You can read the full story here.

Merson predicts Everton defeat this weekend

Paul Merson has predicted that Everton will lose their opening game of the 2022/2023 Premier League campaign against Chelsea.

The Toffees have had a troublesome pre-season, capped off by Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s long-term injury leaving Frank Lampard strikerless for the weekend. But Thomas Tuchel’s Blues haven’t exactly had it all their own way and come to Goodison Park on the back of four straight defeats at the Grand Old Lady.

Here’s a snippet of what former Arsenal midfielder Merson had to say in his SportsKeeda column:

Everton will make it hard for them, and Tuchel will need to grind out a result here. Chelsea haven’t been great in pre-season, but I think they have a little too much for Everton this weekend.

Prediction: Everton 1-2 Chelsea.

Amadou Onana thread

An interesting thread here from Alan Myers who has been speaking to those who know Amadou Onana well.

The 20-year-old has been likened phyiscally to Marouane Fellaini, with natural leadership qualities and a winning mentality.

Bruno Lage makes major Conor Coady transfer claim

Wolves manager Bruno Lage says he will “understand what is best” for Conor Coady amid speculation Everton are interested in the defender.

He said he was unsure whether the 29-year-old, who comes from Merseyside, would leave the club this summer amid suggestions he is seeking first team football in the hope of challenging for a spot in England’s World Cup squad. Coady captained Wolves last season but Lage has experimented with his tactics over the summer.

The Wolves boss has looked at moving to a back four and, in doing so, has left Coady out of the starting XI for several pre-season games. At a press conference on Friday, Lage said Coady was “still my captain” but accepted he had decisions to make about his defence.

Joe Thomas has the full story here.

Onana ‘arrive on Merseyside tonight’

According to Sacha Tavolieri, Amadou Onana will reportedly arrive on Merseyside tonight ahead of his medical and contract signing tomorrow, and then he will be in attendance for Everton vs Chelsea.

Everton ‘interested’ in Coady

Everton are reportedly interested in a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers centre back Conor Coady.

That’s according to Paul Joyce of The Times, and his report comes following claims by Alan Myers of Sky Sports yesterday Frank Lampard is an admirer of the defender.

The Express and Star reported yesterday that Wolves are yet to receive a bid for Coady – but the centre-back could depart this summer for the right move.

The report went on to claim that Wolves could be open to letting Coady go, even on loan, to allow him the minutes he needs to make the England squad for this year’s World Cup.

Onana ‘set to sign a five-year deal’

Amadou Onana is reportedly set to sign a five-year deal at Everton.

That’s according to L’Equipe, via Sport Witness, who are reporting that Onana is ‘set to sign’ for Everton in a €36m deal – excluding bonuses – and he is now close to signing a five-year deal.

The report further claims that Onana is now ‘expected to travel’ to England this weekend and he will not be in Lille’s squad for the start of the Ligue 1 season against Auxerre.

Gueye deal ‘ at a very advanced stage’

Everton reportedly pushing to complete a deal to bring Idrissa Gana Gueye back to Goodison Park.

That’s according to Sky Sports, who are reporting that deal to bring Gueye back to Goodison Park from Paris Saint-Germain is at a very advanced stage.

The ECHO reported over the weekend that Everton’s interest in Gueye was genuine and Frank Lampard had identified midfield as an area in which he wanted to bolster ahead of the new season.

Everon will need the deal done by noon on Friday if Gueye is to play in Saturday’s Premier League opener against Chelsea.

Everton ‘confident of landing’ Onana

Everton are reportedly hopeful of signing Lille midfielder Amadou Onana after submitting a £33 million offer.

That is according to Paul Joyce of The Times, who is reporting that the for Onana, who has been a target for West Ham United, would be in addition to plans to recruit Idrissa Gana Gueye from PSG.

The report goes on to claim that Everton are now increasingly confident of landing the player.

The ECHO reported on Thursday morning that Everton had made a late swoop to secure the signing of Onana, after the midfielder looked set to join West Ham United.

The ECHO understands that the Blues have matched the bid made by the London club, which could rise to around £33.5m including various add-ons over the course of the deal.

Everton ‘eye Xeka’

According to French publicationL’Equipe, Everton are reportedly eyeing a move for Xeka this summer.

However, according to the report, Rennes, Porto and Wolfsburg are all in the race for the 27-year-old with a deal not described as straightforward in the coming days and weeks.

Xeka was part of the squad that won the Ligue 1 title with Lille two years ago – and it is also being reported that he has also been offered a deal by Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia.

Everton ‘make Coady approach’

Everton have reportedly made an approach for Wolves centre-back Conor Coady.

That’s according to 90min, who are reporting that Wolves would like to keep Coady but also will not stand in his way should he wish to leave Molineux.

It was claimed yesterday by Alan Myers of Sky Sports that Blues boss Frank Lampard is an admirer of the England international and would like to bring him to Goodison Park.
